BBC set to cut Formula 1

BBC bosses plan to give up the broadcasting rights to some of Britain's favourite sporting events in the hope of making £35million in savings.

Live coverage of snooker, darts and Formula 1 could follow the likes of the Open Championship golf in becoming the latest casualties of savage cuts to the corporation's sport budget.

It is believed that axing the trio would put a significant dent in the £150million of savings channel chiefs are aiming to find.

The 'Red Button' service - which has been a favourite for viewers watching the likes of Glastonbury and Wimbledon - is also being mooted for the chop in a move that could reduce spend by £12million-a-year.
